| 07.11.2005 / geekfest continued. | previous|next | |

Geekfest is going great. I refactored all my code to use a Context object that gives static access to the HttpServletRequest and the HttpServletResponse. Most convenient. All it took was a little Filter magic and some hackorama with the OutputStream to clean everything up. Yay. The only drawback is that my random pictures and the version drop-down don't appear where they're supposed to. Geekfest to continue tonight... I found an apartment. It's on 23rd and Park. Kind of in the middle of everything, but not close to anything in particular. I'm tempted to go Cambodia-style and buy a ten-speed to explore this little island. But the rising heat discourages any such ambition. I was too lazy to even walk to the air-conditioned subway today. That's two block from Mike's place. So how realistic is that bike-thing really going to be? Instead, I walked around Broadway. I figure I'll only be in this part of town for the next week or so, so I should make the most of it. And what do you know? It's Broadway. Backpack-toting, camera-flashing tourists everywhere. I was no different, snapping arms-length portraits of myself: me in front of blurry Times Square statue, me in front of blurry Chicago billboard, me in front of (and obscuring) blurry Radio City Music Hall. Delight. From said venture, here are some shows I want to see.
To end the evening, I got a chance to sit with Mike for the first time on this trip. I had to entice away from his law article him with a glass of scotch and conversation about air purifiers. It's better than nothing. And, after a half hour of needless websurfing, I've decided that it's most certainly better than this. (Don't click if you're squeamish. I'm serious. And most definately don't click on those listed as a "5" in severity. That would just be unnecessary. I'm telling you.)
